Julián Pontón (Ecuador)


Julián Pontón (born in Tulcán, 1961) has been composing with electroacoustic medias during the last years. He is at present in charge of the Department for Research, Creation and Promotion (DIC = Departamento de Investigación, Creación y Difusión) of the National Conservatory of Music of Quito in Ecuador.

"Sismos en Son de Homenaje" for mixed choir, orchestra and tape was composed by Pontón, at the aforementioned DIC, working with the MetaSynth software the electronic part of the piece. This piece was premiered in Quito by the National Symphonic Orchestra and the Quito City Choir (Coro Ciudad de Quito) from Quito's Municipality in 2000.

He also composed "Aire … Como … Pan", for tape, based on the poem by Pablo Neruda "Oda al Aire" and using voices in German, French, Quichua, Korean and Spanish. This piece was realized between 2000 and 2002 working also at DIC in Quito and at the Computer and Electronic Music Lab (LIEM = Laboratorio de Informática y Electrónica Musical) in Madrid, Spain.

Between 2002 and 2003 he composed "Oda al instante en que dejamos de ser víctimas" for flute, tape and live electronics, during a residency in Germany.
