(Montreal, Quebec, Canada)
Founded in 1995 in Montreal, Studio XX is a bilingual feminist group uniting artists, academics, professionals, students, militants, technicians and cultural/community workers. The collective seeks to intervene both critically and creatively in the field of digital technology, ensuring better visibility for women in cyberspace. The group recognizes the importance of facilitating women's access to these new technologies and of allowing women to experiment with new Web tools such as image manipulation, video, sound and animation. As well as working with other women's groups, Studio XX offers training workshops, holds salons known as Les femmes branchées to show and discuss new work, and has organized, to date, four annual Maid in Cyberspace events.
