Scope and content:
This series provides information on exchanges between Steina and Woody Vasulka and the grant providers that supported their artistic practices beginning in 1970. The grant requests are addressed to government organizations on the national, regional and municipal levels as well as to museums, art centres and private foundations particularly in the United States but also in Europe and Asia.
The grants provided by these organizations enabled Steina and Woody Vasulka to buy or rent equipment to be used to produce work (videotapes or installations) or pursue research. In addition, the funding helped them travel abroad to festivals and other events. The series also includes proposals for artist residencies.
Steina and Woody Vasulka created a file for each organization they applied to. These files contain grant applications, correspondence with organizations, appended documents such as descriptions of their work at the draft stage, documents on projects underway, budgets, development plans and résumés. The series also includes a file on applications rejected by some organizations.
