ekphonesis IV [1971-III], electronic music with visuals [based on Picasso's Guernica]

At the time of lanza's residing in New York, Guernica was still on 'permanent loan' at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. Alcides lanza, a born pacifist, was tremendously impressed by this painting., The initial project was for a film [with French photographer Jerome Ducrot - made out of still images. The film would have de-composed and re-composed the painting. The project was never realized so eventually, lanza did his own version using multiple slide projectors.

ekphonesis IV was realized at the EMS, McGill University. It was finalized in Berlin, at the composer's studio. It was premiered - solo tape version - at the Akademie der Kunste, Berlin, march 1973.

The version with slide projections and an instrumental drone was premiered at the Planetarium Auditorium, Winnipeg, January 3, 1978.
