À propos de cette composition :

[Traduction française non disponible]
Written and dedicated to composer and trombonist James Fulkerson.

Hip'nos: from the Greek 'hypnos', the God of sleep, identified by the Romans with somnus, and from 'hypnosis', sleep like condition psychically induced in which the subject is in a state of altered consciousness. The frequency spectrum of this piece is restricted to an augmented fourth that slowly enlarges only up to a ninth. This composition consists of two slightly different pieces that can be performed as solos or in any combination of 2 or more low pitched instruments. [Version A emphasizes 'wind' instrument techniques; Version B emphasizes 'string' instrumental techniques.

The 'tape part" must be realized by the participating instrumentalists, as simple as two recorded version which are started [in concert] a few seconds apart, in a free canonic imitation. The performers will then play a 'third' stream of canonic imitation, freely synchronized with the pre-recorded tracks. Premiere of Version A: James Fulkeron, during the c/pg European tournee, concert at Fylkingen, Stockholm, Sweden [March 23, 1973.

Premiere of Version B: c/pg and James Fulkerson, concert at the Akademie der Kunste, Berlin, March 28, 1973. Other participant guests artists were Thomas Kessler, synthesizers, Philip Moll, keyboards, Axel Knuth, percussion, and Wolfgang Burknüller, Double bass.
