Brasilia, for synthesizer, sequencer, flute, and percussion (1986)

I composed this piece in the city of Brasilia, in August 1986, and it was premiered the 10th of July,1986, at the Teatro Nacional, with Beatriz Magalhaes-Castro, flute, Roberto Magalhaes-Castro, percussion, and myself at the keyboards. The piece is built on a minute-long atonal sequence of notes played by the synthesizer, which is repeated several times, each time on top of varied flute and percussion imitations. I like to think that the regular, repetitive pulse of the piece is reminiscent of the segmented, mathematically planned layout of the city.
