Founded in 1998 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, CAPACETE presents and produces projects by artists from Brazil and elsewhere. The group promotes its activities from its mobile office and through a newsletter called CAPACETE PLANET. Its aim is to stimulate new ways of thinking about art throughout different parts of the city. Since it was founded, CAPACETE has organized events designed to infiltrate, transform and re-map Rio's urban reality and to uncover new meanings in urban spaces.

Among the artists who have collaborated with CAPACETE are Ricardo Basbaum, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Rubens Mano, Pierre Huyghe and Shimabukuro. Their projects have explored how the city interacts with static and dynamic images, as well as spoken and written words. A major concern for CAPACETE is discovering space that reveals changing urban settings, for example, how a city vacillates between narrative and place, language and space, fiction and architecture, the social universe and public space, politics and a collective sensibility, and nature and advanced technology.
At the Sao Paulo biennale in 2002, CAPACETE presented via the group's concept of a mobile office and exhibition space, A Banca No. 2, the works of Marie-Ange Guilleminot and Marssares. CAPACETE's current project, Mobile Culture, has developed out of A Banca No. 2.
As part of Mobile Culture , the Foundation has supported works by Ducha, a Brazilian artist, and Taro Shinoda, a Japanese artist. Through its state-of-the-art mobile office, A Banca No. 2, CAPACETE hopes to help integrate digital and electronic elements and equipment into local artistic practices and to set up a collective space and program devoted to creating and showcasing experimental artwork. Rio de Janeiro served as a research field for Mobile Culture. The main goal was to create four projects in specific urban sites that gave underprivileged communities easier access to new technologies.
